Recycling initiatives
Recycling program |
| The Texans, in partnership with Waste Management, Aramark, and Waste Management Recycle America, have instituted a recycling program for all Texans' home games at Reliant Stadium. The program also covers all team facilities and staff offices within the stadium. The effort will be year-round, with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and any other events held in the stadium also participating. Recycling bins have been set up throughout the stadium in high-traffic areas, and patrons and staff all are encouraged to throw their recyclables in these bins. |

| Electric transportation |
Texans employees will not be consuming any precious fossil fuels as they make their way around Reliant stadium and the surrounding facilities, because all of the team transportation vehicles are electric. If staff members aren’t getting from place to place on foot or in an electric golf cart, they can be found riding one of the Houston Texans' Segways. Either way, no oil is consumed, and no CO2 is emitted.

Texans' Fan Packs |
| Every year, the Texans send out ‘fan packs’ to our raving fans. And every year, these fan packs are sent in envelopes made from recycled paper. Recycled paper uses 33% less energy to create than new paper, so in only using recycled envelopes the Texans are helping contribute to the conservation of scarce natural resources and the preservation of the environment. |
| Light bulb giveaways |
| In partnership with Reliant Energy, the Texans distributed free compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) to fans at Texans' home games during the 2007 season. Texans employees also were able to receive free CFLs for use in their own homes. CFLs use about 75 percent less energy than a traditional lightbulb, and last about 10 times longer. Over the course of the bulb's lifetime, CFLs can save 2,000 times their own weight in greenhouse gasses. |

| Game plan |
The Texans annual “Gameplan,” a document that is sent out to sponsors each year, is transitioning in 2008 from being printed on paper to being distributed in CD format. One ream of paper (500 sheets) is the equivalent of using 6 percent of a tree, so every sheet of paper saved is a meaningful one.

| Motion sensors |
| The Texans have partnered with SMG and Reliant Energy to save energy throughout Reliant Stadium. Motion sensor light switches have been installed in all Texans offices. The sensor will automatically shut the lights off after 20 minutes if they do not detect any motion. |
Training Camp recycling |
| Football operations manager Doug West worked with the Texans' athletic training staff to implement a plan to recycle all plastic bottles from this year's training camp. Approximately 9,600 bottles were recycled from the practice fields from July 31 - Aug. 25, 2009. |

Interactive media guide |
| This season the Texans unveiled the NFL's first interactive media guide thanks to the efforts of Director of Public Relations Kevin Cooper and his staff. The new media guides are stored on USB sticks as opposed to traditional printed books, allowing the Texans to save the estimated 2,587,000 total pages used in printing last year's media guide. Click here to access the interactive media guide online. |
