Texans Community Player of the Year presented by Whataburger Nominees

C Chris Myers (August Player of the Month)
Myers makes an impact with military support. This year, he and teammate Joel Dreessen created Gridiron Heroes, a new TACT (Texans All Community Team) group that brings veterans from all across Texas to every Texans home game. Myers spent several hours at Ellington Joint Military Base in November to visit with Marines who had recently returned home from a 13-month deployment to Afghanistan. During the offseason, Myers participated in several local USO events welcoming troops home. He and his wife, Jenny, have also made appearances at military hospitals and galas around the Houston-area. Myers continues to be involved with the Garth Brooks Foundation bringing scholarships to Houston that benefit local youth groups.

TE Joel Dreessen (September Player of the Month)
Dreessen has made a major impact in the Houston area. He has helped raise funds for many Houston-based charities and organizations, as well as volunteered his time to interact with others who are making a difference in the community. Dreessen and his wife, Stacy, helped raise money for MD Anderson Hospital by attending the Best Cellars Wine Dinner. The Dreessens also made an appearance at the Taste of the Texans event benefitting the Houston Texans Foundation, the Houston Food Bank and the Methodist Hospital, where he mingled with fans and signed autographs while tasting dishes from some of Houston’s finest restaurants. Dreessen has been a member of the TACT (Texans All Community Team) program by purchasing season tickets for a local non-profit organization, the USO Warrior Project. He also regularly attends field days where he runs drills with participants or speaks about his experiences in the NFL and with the Texans organization.

SS Glover Quin (October Player of the Month)
Quin has been an integral part of the community impact made by the Texans in the Houston community. His participation has varied from autograph signings to hospital visits throughout his time with the Texans. Glover was a leader for the Houston Texans YMCA Camp, speaking to the young people about positive live decisions. He also has spent his free time visiting patients at Methodist Hospital locations throughout Houston. His passion for service is also shown through his participation in the TACT (Texans All Community Team) program, through which he gives game tickets to the Ronald McDonald House for the 2011 season. Quin continues to play an important role in the outreach of the Houston Texans.

DE J.J. Watt (November Player of the Month)
Watt is one of the newest members of our Texans team, but he has wasted no time developing special relationships with the younger members of the Houston community. During the offseason, Watt made a special trip to Memorial Hermann Hospital to visit with Peter and Aaron Berry after the boys were tragically paralyzed in a car crash in July. He also spent his last free weekend before the season opener visiting Mark Smith, a young football player injured in his first practice of his season. Watt showed his funny side when he taught kids from the Boys & Girls Clubs and the Houston Texans YMCA how to make their own “sack dance” at this year’s Hometown Huddle at the Houston Zoo. As he makes his home here in Houston, Watt is already making an impact on our great fans.
