The Houston Texans have partnered with SMG and Reliant Energy to save energy throughout NRG Stadium. Motion-sensor light switches have been installed in all Texans offices. The sensor automatically shuts lights off after 20 minutes if they do not detect any motion.
The Texans, in partnership with Waste Management, Aramark, and Waste Management Recycle America, support a recycling program for all Texans home games at NRG Stadium. The effort is year-round, with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and any other events held in the stadium also participating. Recycling bins can be found throughout NRG Stadium and NRG Park.
Interactive Media Guide
The Houston Texans created the NFL’s 1st interactive media guide, allowing the Texans to save the estimated 2,600,000 pages used in printing. The Texans will continue to be on the cutting edge of development and innovation.
All of the team’s transportation vehicles are electric. If staff members aren’t getting from place to place on foot or in an electric golf cart, they can be found riding one of the Houston Texans' Segways. No oil is consumed, and no CO2 is emitted.
The Texans’ annual “Gameplan,” a document that is sent out to sponsors each year, was transitioned in 2008 from being printed on paper to being distributed on CD.
Touchdown for Trees presented by Imagenet
For each offensive touchdown scored by the Houston Texans at a home game, ImageNet funds a tree to be planted in the Greater Houston Area. Thanks to the total number of touchdowns in the 2013 season, ImageNet donated $5,000 for trees. The trees were planted by volunteers from the Texans and BMC Software on Earth Day through Trees for Houston at the Boys & Girls Clubs Driver Park facility.
