Houston Texans Youth Football Programs

 

Texans Youth Football Camps - June 1-5, 2009 (4-8 p.m.) - Methodist Training Center
Three-hundred football players, ages 8-14, are instructed by top-area high school coaches in this flag football program designed for beginners and experienced players. The camp includes visits and autographs from Texans players and/or Ambassadors each day.(

Texans Sports Camp (formerly AbilityCAMP) - April 25, 2009 – Methodist Training Center
The Texans host a camp with the National Sports Center for the Disabled at the Texans Draft Day Party. About 100 children with either physical or developmental disabilities, ages 6 to 18, are introduced first-hand to the sport of football with a fun and memorable experience. The fun-filled day includes football instruction and skill development, use of equipment and appearances and autographs from Texans Ambassadors, players, cheerleaders and TORO.


Texans High School Player Development Camp – May 7-9, 2009 - Methodist Training Center
Several hundred Houston high school students participate in a free camp that focuses on academic counseling and specific football skill training by position. Each participant gains a full awareness of what is necessary to become a successful high school and collegiate student-athlete, along with the resources and information to meet the NCAA Clearinghouse requirements. In 2008, over 50 college coaches attended to observe the football skill portion of the camp and many students were subsequently offered scholarships.

Texans 7-on-7 Tournament – May 23-24, 2009 - Methodist Training Center
Thirty-two Texas high school teams from all over the state participate in this two-day, 7-on-7 State Championship Qualifying Tournament. In 2008, Edcouch Elsa High School won the tournament on Saturday and Tomball High School won on Sunday. Other participating teams included Alamo Heights, Alief Taylor, Baytown Lee, Bellaire, Channelview, Chavez, Cinco Ranch, Cy-Creek, Cy-Woods, Friendswood, Hardin, Houston Sterling, Klein, Klein Oak, Lamar, Langham Creek, LaPorte, Madison, Manvel, Pasadena Memorial, Second Baptist, Seven Lakes, Spring, Sterling (RSS), Stratford, Texas City, The Woodlands, Waller, Weslaco and West Brook.

NFL 2008 National 7-on-7 Tournament - July 10-13 - New Orleans, La.
Winners from 16 NFL teams’ local 7-on-7 tournaments advanced to the National Tournament being hosted by the New Orleans Saints at their training Facility in Metairie, La. The Texans team was coached by Jefferson Davis High School Head Coach Chuck Arnold and Madison High School Defensive Coordinator Anthony Fields. The Texans team torched the Cleveland Browns team in the opening round, 45-21, but lost to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Semi-Finals, 38-14. The Seattle Seahawks took the title by defeating the New York Jets, 37-10. In addition to the actual football tournament, the NFL and the Saints addressed character development and life skills topics through round table discussions, guest speakers and breakout groups.

  Reliant Stadium Bayou Bowl Practice and Tour – June 12, 2009 – Reliant Stadium and Methodist Training Center
Texas and Louisiana high school all-stars participating in the Bayou Bowl practice at the Methodist Training Center and are treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of Reliant Stadium.

Texans High School Coach of the Week – In-season
The Texans High School Coach of the Week program is a fully-integrated, grassroots program designed to aid and promote high school football throughout the Houston area. Two winners are selected every week and each receive a Texans Coach of the Week hat, a certificate signed by Texans Head Coach Gary Kubiak, $500 for the school’s football program and an invitation to a Texans game and the Coach of the Week Banquet. In addition, two Texans High School Coach of the Year Award winners are selected and each receives a $1,000 grant for their football program. The US Army and FSN are associate sponsors of the Houston Texans High School Coach of the Week program.  

Texans NFL Flag Football - Ongoing
Available nationwide, including all NFL team cities, NFL Flag provides an opportunity for boys and girls ages 5-17 to become involved with football. Thousands of Houston-area youths are involved in leagues that run during the fall and spring and are organized through local youth groups. NFL Flag offers young players non-contact, continuous action and lessons in teamwork. NFL Flag requires minimal equipment, which includes NFL team jerseys and footballs.

Texans Gatorade Jr. Training Camps - Ongoing
The Texans Gatorade Jr. Training Camp program is a grassroots, community outreach initiative designed to teach 2nd – 5th graders, football related skills in a non-contact environment. The program conveys a message of teamwork and personal best while reinforcing the importance of education. The program also touches on the importance of friendly competition versus winning or losing. Over 5,000 Houston-area children participate in Texans Gatorade Jr. Training Camps each year.

Texans NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK - Ongoing
The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick program is the NFL's premier youth skills competition consisting of punting, passing and placekicking. The program creates a lively and engaging forum for boys and girls ages 8-15 to compete separately against their peers. The NFL wants every child to be given an equal opportunity to compete. Therefore, there is no registration fee or purchase required for any participant to enter.

  Houston Texans Youth Football Directory – Ongoing
Over 80 area youth football leagues are registered with the Texans Youth Football Directory. With the directory, the Texans are able provide youth leagues with special offers, locate leagues for new players, disperse information about upcoming events to youth league administrators, coaches and parents, and address the general needs of the youth football community.

Texans and Reliant Energy Scholarship for Champions (PDF)
Reliant Energy will award eight $1,000 scholarships to Houston-area high school student-athletes who have exhibited remarkable leadership in athletics, academics, and extracurricular activities. Nominations must be completed online by an administrator, coach, or teacher by Aug. 22 at www.reliantpowerzone.com/texans.
