The Texans' special teams figured heavily into the overall success of the team in 2007. Kris Brown and André Davis had career seasons behind several clutch performances.

Defensive line - Jan. 29
Defensive end Mario Williams wreaked havoc on opposing quarterbacks all season on his way to a franchise-record 14 sacks, which tied for third in the NFL. Travis Johnson, Anthony Weaver and rookie Amobi Okoye provided strong support.

Led by Pro Bowler DeMeco Ryans, who led the team in tackles for the second consecutive season, the Texans' linebackers were a formidable force in 2007. Morlon Greenwood and Danny Clark rounded out the starting rotation.

The emergence of rookie cornerback Fred Bennett was a bright spot for a Texans' secondary that was riddled with injuries in 2007. Starters Dunta Robinson and Glenn Earl both ended the season on the injured reserve list.

With left tackle Ephraim Salaam, left guard Chester Pitts and right tackle Eric Winston starting all 16 games in the 2007 season, the Texans' offensive line surrendered only 22 sacks, a franchise record that ranked sixth in the NFL.

Tight ends - Jan. 18
Second-year pro Owen Daniels and the rest of the Texans' tight ends stepped up in 2007 to make clutch catches and provide solid blocks. Daniels finished the season with 63 catches for 768 yards.

Wide receivers - Jan. 16
Wide receiver Andre Johnson was sidelined for much of the 2007 season, but still managed a career-high eight touchdown catches. The Texans' 11th-ranked passing offense also received help from Kevin Walter, André Davis and Jacoby Jones.

Despite a knee injury, running back Ahman Green still showed flashes of his talent in 2007. Meanwhile, Ron Dayne led the Texans in rushing for the second consecutive year, while Vonta Leach and Darius Walker provided solid contributions.

Though slowed by injuries in 2007, quarterback Matt Schaub proved to be everything the Texans envisioned when they acquired him last offseason. Sage Rosenfels also had a superb season with a team-leading 15 touchdown passes.
