Practice report: More playing time for Busing

The Texans practiced outside at the Methodist Training Facility on a cool, overcast Friday morning. It was their final practice before Sunday's contest with Jacksonville.

Injury status: Head coach Gary Kubiak said that cornerback Jacques Reeves and receiver André Davis are game time decisions for the showdown with the Jaguars. Reeves has been out since the early part of training camp with a broken left fibula, while Davis was knocked out of the Jets game in Week 1 with a concussion.

Davis wants to get back but says his situation changes from day-to-day.

"Right now, everything's just based on the symptoms I've been having," Davis said. "There are some days that I have good days and then the next day I'm still feeling pretty mentally foggy. Today was a good day."

As for Reeves, today went well at practice. He explained what methods for healing he'll use in between Friday afternoon and kickoff on Sunday.

"I'll do a little treatment, go get my masseuse to work on it," he said. "Epsom salt. Ice. Whatever I can do. Things around the bone are starting to come to, so it's going well."

After a week of limited participation in practice, Kubiak thought defensive tackle Shaun Cody "looked good," as Cody comes back from a bruised right knee. He also said that receiver Kevin Walter will likely play, based on what he saw during the week.

"He's definitely going to play a lot more this week. He's had a good week of work and has earned the right to get on the field some more."

The only player that Kubiak definitively ruled out is cornerback Antwaun Molden, who's still recovering from a quadriceps injury.

Busing will be busy: Safety John Busing finished with three tackles and a pass deflection last Sunday against the Titans, and Kubiak expects the four-year veteran will see the field quite a bit versus the Jaguars.

"He's definitely going to play a lot more this week," Kubiak said. "He's had a good week of work and has earned the right to get on the field some more."

That doesn't necessarily mean that Busing's extra snaps will take time away from any one particular player in the secondary.

"We're going to rotate those guys and they're all going to play and be a part of what we're doing," Kubiak said. "Obviously, his role is going to pick up."

Moats' role: Running back Ryan Moats has yet to carry the football this season, but the 26-year old registered three tackles on special teams against the Titans. His best season rushing came as a rookie in 2005 with the Eagles, when he carried 55 times for 278 yards (5.1 avg.) and three touchdowns. In Houston this season, Moats has watched Steve Slaton and Chris Brown handle the load. That could change on Sunday against Jacksonville.

"I'd like to see him get some touches in the game," Kubiak said. "It's hard to sit here and say three guys can touch the ball from a running backs standpoint, but we have operated this week assuming that he may get some touches. But he's been doing his job and playing well on special teams, so we'll see how it goes."
