Texans re-sign Brown and Frye

Brown returns a fumble in the Texans' 2007 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Texans re-signed restricted free agent strong safety C.C. Brown and exclusive rights player tackle Brandon Frye, the team announced today. 

Brown (6-0, 204) started all 16 games for the first time in his career, playing at free safety in the opener and at strong safety for the last 15 games. He finished fourth on the team with 83 tackles, including 64 solos, which was the second-highest tackle total of his career. He also recorded nine passes defensed, an interception, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

Brown has played in 47 games with 44 starts in three seasons since being selected in the sixth round (188th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Texans. He has made 260 tackles, including 190 solos, and has one career sack, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Brown becomes the seventh free agent from last year's roster to re-sign with the Texans. He joins wide receiver André Davis (2/29), strong safety Glenn Earl (3/7), tight end Mark Bruener (3/10), free safety Will Demps (3/20), defensive end N.D. Kalu (3/20) and punter Matt Turk (3/20).

Frye (6-4, 298) spent the first half of his rookie season on the Texans practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster mid-way through the year. He was inactive for each of the team's final eight games. Frye was the second of two sixth-round picks (163rd overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech.

Frye is the third exclusive rights player to re-sign with the Texans this offseason, joining defensive end Earl Cochran (3/19) and running back Darius Walker (3/3).
