Anderson re-signs with Texans
Wide receiver David Anderson
re-signed with the Texans on Wednesday, inking a three-year deal to remain in Houston.
Anderson had signed an offer sheet with the Broncos on Friday, which gave the Texans seven days to match Denver's offer. Since Anderson was a restricted free agent, the Texans had the right of first refusal.
"Coach (Kubiak) called me on the day I got the Broncos' offer and told me congratulations, but that he wasn't going to let me go anywhere," Anderson said. "That put a smile on my face. I always have been a huge fan of coach Kubiak and I'll never not want to play for that man. "
Anderson is coming off the best season of his career, recording 19 catches for 241 yards and two touchdowns. He emerged as the team's primary threat in the slot and earned his first career start in Week 12 at Cleveland.
"I think the most important thing for me was that I got the sense that I was wanted by the Texans organization," Anderson said. "I always knew they liked me, but I never knew what type of commitment they had for me as a player. I think that's the ultimate comfort level to know that your coaches like you and they are committed to you. I am looking forward to getting to play my best and continue to help this offense flourish. We have so many weapons on this offense; that's what's so exciting about being on this team."
Anderson, a seventh-round draft pick by the Texans in 2006, will join a loaded wide receiver corps which includes Andre Johnson, Kevin Walter and André Davis. Last year, the Texans' offense ranked third in the league (382.1 ypg) and fourth in passing (266.7).
"We played together last year and we were all hoping that we could stick together and continue to play together this year," Anderson said. "We are comfortable together as a group and we know how to push each other. We have all made each other better and we are excited about being even better next season."
