Practice report: Players react to Henry news

Because of rain showers, the Texans practiced inside the Methodist Training Center on Thursday in preparation for their Week 15 matchup against the Rams.

Center down: Center Chris Myers missed practice Thursday because of a rib injury he suffered against the Seahawks. Myers practiced Wednesday.

"He's real sore from the shot he took in the game and wasn't feeling good today, so we did not practice Chris," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said.

Foster's opportunity: After picking up nearly 100 yards from scrimmage on Sunday against Seattle, rookie running back Arian Foster will likely see some more action, along with Chris Brown and Ryan Moats. Kubiak liked what he saw out of Foster versus the Seahawks, but he wasn't thrilled by the young ball-carrier's practice this morning.

"He's got a long way to go," Kubiak said. "He needs to practice better than he practiced today. He's a young player. A little inconsistent, but he's got a lot of talent."

Foster concurred with his coach's assessment.

"I had a couple mental errors, and I've got to overcome that," Foster said. "I'm just going to try to do my job out there."

Kubiak said that Foster is in a unique position for an undrafted rookie.

"He's getting an opportunity here and he needs to understand how important this opportunity is," Kubiak said.

Right tackle Eric Winston was enthused by what Foster was able to accomplish against Seattle.

"I think he showed that he can play and that he deserves some more looks," Winston said. "He seemed real confident in what he was doing, pass protection, the little things - checked on routes, everything he knew to do. So I'm hoping he gets the ball some and I hope he does well."

Thoughts on Henry: Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry died Thursday morning after falling out of the back of a pickup truck. The Texans, who played Henry and the Bengals in Week 6 this season, were saddened by the news.

Wide receiver Jacoby Jones is from the same hometown as Henry.

"I've known Chris for many years," Jones said. "He's from New Orleans, too. Chris was a good guy. He was quiet. He wasn't really a troublemaker. He was a good dude."

Fellow wideout Andre Johnson said he didn't know Henry very well but that he does know Bengals receiver Chad Ochocinco, a close friend of Henry's. Johnson planned to reach out to Ochocinco after he left Reliant Stadium on Thursday.

"He was a very talented guy, a tough little guy," Johnson said of Henry. "I liked the way he played the game of football. Like I said, it's just sad to see that something like this has happened."

Kevin Walter, who was in the same Bengals' receiving corps with Henry in 2005, was mourning the loss of his former teammate.

"It's tough because I was friends with him and I respect him because he was a great player and a good man," Walter said.

"People don't know that he was a good man. Everyone hears that he's getting in trouble off the field, this and that, and that's not the case. I just think he was in the wrong place at the wrong time a lot of the time and he'll be missed. He has (three) children—that's extremely tough. That's the toughest thing right there. God be with them."
