“Ready to go”: Schaub confirms full medical clearance

Posted Jul 17, 2012

For months, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub said he would be 100 percent healthy by the start of training camp.

For months, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub said he would be 100 percent healthy by the start of training camp.

He made good on his word.

Schaub confirmed Tuesday that he received full medical clearance on his right foot last Tuesday during a visit to his surgeon, Dr. Robert Anderson, in Charlotte, N.C.

“No restrictions,” Schaub said on “Texans All Access” on SportsRadio 610 AM. “Just ready to go and 100 percent.”

Schaub suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury last November in Week 10 at Tampa Bay. He had surgery on Nov. 30 and was held out of Texans organized team activities (OTAs) and mini-camp in May and June.

“It feels great,” Schaub said of being cleared. “It wasn’t anything surprising to me. I knew it was going to happen and (thought it was) probably going to happen sooner than it did, but just to have it all in the past is something to draw back on as an experience, something that I had to go through to get to where we are. To just look forward and look to the future, what we’re going to do this season and the potential that we have is exciting. So I’m looking forward to just moving on and let’s get after 2012.”

Since the end of mini-camp on June 16, Schaub has been making up for lost time by organizing players-only throwing sessions with his teammates at the University of Houston.

“It’s been great for me personally because I missed the time in OTAs and mini-camp to where I’m throwing to those guys, moving targets,” he said. “I was throwing all the time, but it was with the trainers over on the other field and throwing to spot throws. So to be able to go and do it with the guys, throwing with them, different routes and different actions for me – our bootleg stuff, our play-action stuff – to do a lot more football-wise, what I’m going to be asked to do in practice and in games, really helped me to ensure that everything from every angle on my foot and what I’m doing from a conditioning standpoint is all up to where I need it to be.”

Texans training camp begins in less than two weeks on Saturday, July 28.
