Andre Johnson, Matt Schaub explain argument

Posted Nov 17, 2013

Following the loss to the Raiders, Texans' quarterback Matt Schaub and wide receiver Andre Johnson cleared the air about an argument they had.

At the end of the Texans' eighth consecutive loss, tempers flared between Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson. The former's final pass was intended for the latter, and was ultimately incomplete. The pair exchanged words on the sideline. But in the locker room after the game, each downplayed the dustup.

"It's just the heat of the moment," Johnson said. "Once we got to the locker room, we talked about it. I'm not worried about it."

The 11th-year wide receiver added that he and Schaub "have played a lot of football together."

Schaub echoed Johnson's explanation.

"It's just emotions," Schaub said. "Emotions of the game, a culmination of a lot of things but stuff we will keep between us. He is a great guy and a great competitor, as am I."

On 4th-and-seven at the Raiders' 8-yard line, Schaub tried to connect with Johnson in the end zone. But the ball was juggled and dropped by Oakland's Usama Young, and the Raiders took over on downs. The Texans fell, 28-23, and now sit at 2-8 in 2013. Gary Kubiak was in the booth during the game, and the head coach shared his view of the Johnson-Schaub exchange.

"That's just frustrations," Kubiak said. "It doesn't bother me if players get mad. It's just something those two will handle. They've played a lot of football together."

Schaub relieved starter Case Keenum with 2:26 left in the third quarter. He completed 12-of-25 passes for 155 yards. Johnson caught a game-high 10 passes for 116 yards.
