Andre Johnson happy to be back

Posted Jul 25, 2014

Wide receiver Andre Johnson and the Texans reported for the start of training camp on Friday.

Andre Johnson reported for training camp on Friday morning.

The All-Pro wide receiver was at NRG Stadium with his teammates after missing organized team activities (OTAs) and minicamp in May and June.

"I just love playing the game of football," Johnson said. "I'm going to play football. I don't plan on walking away from this."

Johnson said he'd had a "good dialogue" throughout the last seven months with new head coach Bill O'Brien. He also said he thinks his role in the offense will be "fun".

Left tackle Duane Brown said Johnson received a standing ovation from his teammates before a team meeting started on Friday morning. He joked that it was a "slow clap", but said he was excited to see his longtime teammate.

Johnson and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick weren't able to connect during OTAs and minicamp, so Houston's new starting signal caller was glad the franchise's most decorated player returned.

"It was good to see him walk in the building," Fitzpatrick said. "Obviously he’s a guy that is well respected, not just here, but around the league."

Defensive end J.J. Watt said the team was happy to have Johnson back in the fold.

"It's good to have him back," Watt said. "We're excited he's here."

Johnson and the Texans' first practice is Saturday morning at 8 a.m. CT at the Houston Methodist Training Center.
