Arian Foster gives Texans O-line Segways for Christmas

Texans running back Arian Foster bought his offensive linemen a very unique Christmas present on Wednesday:

Segways.

Foster has used a Segway – a two-wheeled self-balancing, zero-emissions personal transportation device – to get around Reliant Stadium all season. He rides it through the locker room and to and from meetings and the weight room, training room and parking lot.

“Anytime I give a gift, I always try to give somebody something thoughtful,” Foster said on Wednesday afternoon. “A couple of guys like (center) Chris Myers and D-Brown (left tackle Duane Brown) and (left guard) Wade Smith, they’re always getting on me about riding my Segway, saying, ‘You can’t walk? You’re too good to walk?’ And I’m like, ‘No, man. I would just rather ride wheels.’

“I saw a little jealousy in their eyes when they were talking about me, so I figured I’d get all the linemen a gift.”

After being called “Santa Foster” by a reporter, Foster quipped, “Just call me Hood Santa.” He then was asked if he had any concern about the linemen’s ability to ride the Segways.

“They’re professional athletes,” he said. “Sometimes, they’re like polar bears on ice, but they should be fine. You can’t go that fast on it, so you may get a scrape if you fall. I don’t think they’re going to fall. They’ll be alright.”

Foster leads the AFC with 1,313 rushing yards and leads the NFL with 14 rushing touchdowns. Brown, Smith and Myers have started every game. Ben Jones, Antoine Caldwell and Brandon Brooks have rotated at right guard, while Derek Newton and Ryan Harris have rotated at right tackle.

“I can’t do anything without them,” Foster said. “If there is no them, there is no me. That’s what a team is all about. It’s just my way of giving back to the big fellas up front.”
