Arian Foster impresses in practice, ready for SD

Posted Sep 6, 2013

Arian Foster impresses head coach Gary Kubiak in practice and says he is ready to carry the load at San Diego.

Last week head coach Gary Kubiak said that Arian Foster would not be a “30-carry guy opening night without camp.”

After a week of practice, Foster may have changed his mind.

“42,” Kubiak joked when asked about Foster’s number of carries at San Diego. “No, I’ll tell you what, he looks really good. I’ve been impressed. He’s really had some good work, had a good day today."

Kubiak said that Foster and backup Ben Tate will both get carries against the Chargers.

"Obviously, we’re going to go into the game and he and Ben are going to both get after it," Kubiak said. "That’s the way we’ve got it orchestrated, but I have been impressed with his wind, his conditioning. It’ll be the first time that he’s been hit, but that’s part of it. But he’s come a long way.”

With no lingering effects from his injury, Foster says he is ready to play.

“I feel like I’m game ready to carry the load,” Foster said. “It’s early in the season. It’s game one. I’ll get my feet wet this game. However the game plays, that’s how it’s going to play. But I feel like I’m game ready.”

Foster is looking forward to opening the season in San Diego for another reason.

“It’s going to be my first time playing in Qualcomm,” Foster said. “Every high school kid in San Diego wants to play at Qualcomm. It’s going to be fun.”

Foster, who played for Mission Bay Senior High School in San Diego, fell just one game short of the of the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) championship played at Qualcomm Stadium.
