Arian Foster makes NFL history in Sunday's loss

Posted Oct 13, 2013

Despite a tough day for Houston, Arian Foster shined with a 100-yard rushing performance for the 25th time in his career and also made NFL history.

Despite a tough day for Houston, Arian Foster shined with a 100-yard rushing performance for the 25th time in his career and also made NFL history.

Foster gained 141 yards on 20 carries in Sunday’s 38-13 loss to St. Louis. In the second quarter, Foster had a season-long run for 23 yards. On the next play, Foster eclipsed 5,000 career rushing yards with a 22-yard play. The All-Pro running back is now tied with Emmett Smith as the 13th fastest player to reach 5,000 yards, doing so in 57 games.

“My opinion of him has never changed,” Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said. “He’s a really outstanding back. He’s a competitor and hates losing and you can tell (by) the way he was running the football after we got a significant lead.”

Foster, second behind Andre Johnson in receiving yards on the day, also had four catches for 57 yards. Foster had a 41-yard gain, his longest since 2011, on short pass from Matt Schaub in the second quarter.

Foster attributes his success on the field to better overall health.

“I was just getting back in to the football state because I missed so much of the offseason because of a couple of injuries,” Foster said after the game. “It’s just me getting back into the swing of things.”
