Arian Foster underwent back surgery in California on Thursday. Foster suffered from a herniated disc that kept him out of the Texans' last two games.

"His surgery went well and that’s about all I know," head coach Gary Kubiak said. "I don’t normally have any more particulars on it, but I know he had it and he’s doing well, and (he’ll) start the recovery process.”

Foster sought multiple medical opinions last week both locally and nationally before electing to have the season-ending surgery. He was placed on injured reserve on Tuesday.

"It’s hard to replace Arian." offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said. "He’s a great player. Ben (Tate) does a very, very good job. The other guys are working at it."

Foster rushed for 542 yards over eight games this season, averaging 4.5 yards per carry and added 183 receiving yards on 22 catches. This season, Foster scored two touchdowns, a two-point conversion, while surpassing 5,000 career rushing yards.
