BWTB: More Draft picks on way for Texans?

Posted Feb 11, 2014

The Texans might be in line for some additional draft picks this May.

The Texans have the first pick of every round in the 2014 NFL Draft.

They can still move those picks via trade, but here in mid-February, they own the Draft's initial pick, and every round's first pick thereafter.

But they might have some more coming, according to this article by Jimmy Kempski of Philly.com.

Every year, compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lost free agents. In the 2013 Draft, the Texans had compensatory picks at the end of rounds 3 and 6. They wound up using those extra picks on defensive end Sam Montgomery (95th overall) and tight end Ryan Griffin (201st overall).

In Kempski's article, he cites Craig Turner's research. Turner contends that the Texans will likely get a pair of compensatory picks in the fifth round.

In free agency last offseason, the Texans lost linebacker Connor Barwin, safety Glover Quin, punter Donnie Jones, cornerback Alan Ball, tight end James Casey and running back Justin Forsett.

But they signed punter Shane Lechler, fullback Greg Jones and safety Ed Reed.
