BWTB: Senior Bowl practices approaching

Posted Jan 17, 2014

Senior Bowl practices begin Monday, and Drew Dougherty of Texans TV will be in Mobile, Alabama with the latest on 2014 NFL hopefuls.

Senior Bowl practices get cranked up in Mobile, Alabama this Monday, and it's our first chance to get in front of the next wave of NFL rookies. In case you don't know, the Senior Bowl is an all-star game featuring college players hoping to make it in the League. You won't see quarterbacks Johnny Manziel or Teddy Bridgewater, or defensive end Jadaveon Clowney because they're underclassmen coming out early. Just some of the top-rung players who were seniors in 2013.

Yesterday we put up a TBT slideshow featuring a few 2013 Texans who took part in past games.

Along with video production coordinator/wizard Jay McDevitt, I'll be there for the week of work. We'll leave, however, before the actual game itself. Monday and Tuesday will see the largest gathering of NFL scouts, coaches, personnel staff and media. By Wednesday, things thin out and get quieter.

I attended practices in 2010, 2011 and also last year. 2012 was a no-go because I was toiling away in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl.

But from past experiences, you get a first look at players you've maybe seen on tv, if at all.

After each practice, we try to grab as many players as possible for a few questions and it's fun to look back at a few back-and-forths we've had over the years.

We saw outside linebacker Brooks Reed turn in an impressive performance on the first day of work in 2011. The Texans wound up using a 2nd round pick on him that year.

Also that year, we had an interesting encounter with current Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman, which you can see at the end of this video.

Starting Monday, we'll have some fun content for you from Mobile. Plan on hearing from the prospects themselves, as well as some Draft experts as well.

Tweet at me if there's a particular player you'd like us to interview, and we'll see about making it happen.

Here's a list of the rosters.
