BWTB: The O'Brien Reaction

Posted Jan 6, 2014

The Texans officially named former Penn State head coach Bill O'Brien as the next head coach of the Texans.

The Houston Texans officially named Bill O'Brien the franchise's third ever head coach on Friday, as the former Penn State head man met with the media and was formally introduced. Now that O'Brien is in the fold, below are a collection of stories and columns from national media on what lies ahead for the Texans.

According to NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal, Bill O'Brien is in great position to mold the next Houston Texans starting quarterback.

ESPN.com's Jeffri Chadiha examines O'Brien's past stops, and why that history should help him be a 'winning pick' for the Texans.

Mike Reiss, who covers the New England Patriots for ESPN's NFL Nation, shares four different viewpoints about how O'Brien can take what he learned in New England and apply it to his time in Houston.

Tania Ganguli of ESPN explains that the Texans want to take the next step with Bill O'Brien as head coach.

AP's Kristie Rieken breaks down O'Brien's past work with quarterbacks, and how he's found success at the QB spot everywhere he's been.

Houston radio host John Harris, who played college football with O'Brien at Brown University, shares some insight into the new Texans head coach's demeanor, and his fuzzy economics memory.

CBS Sports columnist Dennis Dodd remarks that Bill O'Brien left Penn State in a much better position than he found it two years ago.

As John McClain of the Houston Chronicle writes, despite being a Belichek protege, Bill O'Brien is his own man.

For Wade Phillips and the rest of the coaching staff, uncertainty lies ahead, remarks Houston Chronicle writer Dale Robertson.

NFL.com's Marc Sessler gave a breakdown of O'Brien's comments on Friday, including the new coach talking up the talent on the Texans squad.
