BWTB: The surprise of a lifetime

Posted Dec 3, 2013

A special surprise was in store for Lance Corporal Ceontre Shelton of the United States Marine Corps during the second quarter of the Texans vs. Patriots matchup.

A special surprise was in store for Lance Corporal Ceontre Shelton of the United States Marine Corps during the second quarter of the Texans vs. Patriots matchup.

While serving in Afghanistan in 2011, Shelton’s platoon was attacked and he was struck by an improvised explosive device. He suffered a left platella fracture, nerve damage, shrapnel scars, a traumatic brain injury and ultimately a below-knee amputation of his right leg. Shelton became a Purple Heart Recipient for his brave service and unwavering passion for his country.

On Sunday afternoon, Shelton stood atop the Reliant Energy Deck alongside Houston Texans Cheerleaders and Dan Wallrath, the Founder and President of Operation Finally Home, a non-profit organization whose mission is to help wounded and disabled veterans get their lives back on track by providing custom-built homes.

Drew Dougherty of Texans TV presented Shelton with a Texans gift package with a game ball signed by members of the team in front of a crowd of 71,769 fans. Just as Shelton expected the ceremony to conclude, Dougherty announced that on behalf of Wallrath and the Texans, Shelton and his family would be receiving a custom-built, mortgage-free home in Houston.

Shelton and his wife  were overcome with astonishment and gratitude as they embraced to the backdrop of a roaring crowd.

In addition to receiving a new home, the Shelton’s pantries will be stocked full of groceries compliments of HEB. Watch the brave veteran get the surprise of his life below.
