BWTB: Whirlwind weekend for Nix

Posted May 21, 2014

Rookie nose tackle Louis Nix III met his new teammates and then returned to South Bend, IN for graduation from Notre Dame.

It was an eventful Friday, Saturday and Sunday for Texans rookies. But for nose tackle Louis Nix III, the events straddled his new city of employment, and the town of his alma mater.

Nix left Houston for South Bend, IN on Saturday afternoon to walk at his graduation from Notre Dame on Sunday. Even though he missed time with his new teammates, head coach Bill O'Brien was emphatic that the third rounder take part in the ceremonies.

"I think he’s paid his dues at Notre Dame," O'Brien said Saturday. "I just think it’s important to allow guys to do that. He’s not going to miss much time."

Nix was on the field with the Texans rookies on Friday, and took part in meetings that day, the night before and on Saturday morning. Despite being the fourth player selected by Houston in this year's Draft, he spoke like a rookie in for a tryout.

“Hopefully, I’m here for the long-term," Nix said. "But at this point I’m worried about today and what I have to do today and what I have to do in five minutes.”

The rookie defender, who has a well-known gregarious side to him, said his time on Twitter will be quiet for awhile.

“As far as Twitter goes, nothing now," Nix said. "I’m leaving Twitter alone. I’m just trying to focus on me right and trying to make this team.”

Nix and the Texans will begin OTA's next Tuesday.
