Ben Tate has "sore" groin, misses part of practice

Posted Aug 2, 2013

Running back Ben Tate missed a bit of practice Friday morning with a sore groin.

Running back Ben Tate missed a part of practice Friday morning because of tightness in his groin, but both he and head coach Gary Kubiak aren’t overly concerned.

“My groin just got tight,” Tate said. “I’m not too worried about it."

The fourth-year pro has gotten the starter’s reps in lieu of Arian Foster, who’s been sidelined all of camp with a calf strain. Foster might practice as soon as Sunday. The Texans have Friday afternoon and all of Saturday off, and resume two-a-days on Sunday morning.

While Tate wasn’t too worried about the long-term effects, he didn’t know if he would be back on the field in two days.

“I’m not sure yet,” Tate said.

Kubiak elaborated on the running back position, and said Tate coming out of practice was a “precautionary” measure.

“His groin was sore,” Kubiak said. “We really worked a lot of young players this morning. Our focus was on the young guys and when his groin got sore we took him out.”

In 11 games last season, Tate rushed 65 times for 279 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He took the long view of things when asked about his level of frustration this morning.

“The season doesn’t start tomorrow so why would I be frustrated? If there’s a time get nicked, I’d rather it be now than in the season.”
