Ben Tate to play, Arian Foster a gametime decision

Posted Nov 1, 2013

Head coach Gary Kubiak said Friday that running back Ben Tate will suit up against the Colts, and Arian Foster will be a gametime decision.

Ben Tate will play.

Even though he has four cracked ribs, the Texans' backup running back will suit up against the Indianpolis Colts on Sunday night.

“Ben will be ready to go,” head coach Gary Kubiak said. "If he could hold up on Wednesday with the trial run, which he did and then he did take some practice today."

Even though he's dealing with physical pain in his ribs, Tate was happy about being ready to go against Indianapolis.

“I’m ecstatic," Tate said. "It feels good to get out there and be able to play the game that I love playing.”

As for starter Arian Foster, there's still some uncertainty.

"I think Arian's still a game-time decision, but he did a lot better today in practice," Kubiak said. "So we’ll see how he comes out of practice.”

Kubiak said every player on the 53-man roster practiced on Friday, and the official injury report listed Foster as "questionable" for Week 9.

Foster is nursing a hamstring injury, and he left the loss at Kansas City in the first quarter.

Tate, who said the rib injury is "still a little painful", described how he will play through it.

"Just blocking it out," Tate said. "Getting out there and, once the juices get flowing, you don’t think about it.”

At least one player from the trio of Dennis Johnson, Ray Graham and Deji Karim will play at running back in addition to Tate and Foster. If Foster's unable to play, two from that group will likely get carries.
