Ben Tate wants to play despite broken ribs

Posted Oct 31, 2013

Ben Tate wants to play in Sunday's game against Indianapolis despite suffering four broken ribs.

Ben Tate likes to compare himself to Wolverine. After playing through four broken ribs against Kansas City, the comparison is a fair one.

The fourth-year running back was back at practice on Wednesday which took place outside in a heavy rainstorm. Neither broken ribs nor pouring rain stopped Tate, who took all of his reps. He will be evaluated Thursday to see how his body handled the practice.

“I already know it’s not going to feel good tomorrow,” Tate said Wednesday. “I think it’s more about just getting ready for Sunday, seeing where I’ll be at on Sunday.”

After the bye week, Tate was able to rest before heading into the second half of the season. Now on the heels of a five-game losing streak, the Texans will face the (5-2) Indianapolis Colts who currently lead the AFC South. Despite the broken ribs, Tate wants to be on the field on Sunday night.

“I want to help this team make a turnaround,” Tate said. “We haven’t been living up to our standards this year and I’m all in and I believe that we can turn this thing around.”

Tate will be an end-of-the-week decision for Sunday’s game against Indianapolis. Through seven games, Tate is averaging 4.8 yards rushing on 66 carries with one rushing touchdown.
