Bill O’Brien to coach 2018 Senior Bowl

Posted Jan 3, 2018

Head coach Bill O’Brien and his staff will coach the South team, while Broncos head coach Vance Joseph will take over the North team.

The Texans and Broncos have been selected to coach the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl, the Senior Bowl announced Wednesday.

Head coach Bill O’Brien and his staff will coach the South team, while Broncos head coach Vance Joseph, who served as defensive backs coach for the Texans (2011-13), will take over the North team.

“The Senior Bowl is a great opportunity for our coaching staff to get a look at some of the top college players in the country," O'Brien said via statement from the Senior Bowl. "Anytime you get to work hands-on with these young players and put them through the rigors of NFL-level practices and meetings, it can be tremendously beneficial to both parties. We are all looking forward to the week and making the most of it.”

This will be just the second time in franchise history for the Texans to coach in the annual college game, the first being in 2003 under Dom Capers. Under O’Brien, the Texans have drafted a number of players from the Senior Bowl:

2014: C.J. Fiedorowicz, Jay Prosch
2016: Nick Martin, Braxton Miller, Tyler Ervin, K.J. Dillon, D.J. Reader
2017: Carlos Watkins

The 69th Reese’s Senior Bowl is scheduled for January 27 at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. CT. Both the NFL Network and ESPN will televise the practices during the week and NFL Network will carry the game live on Saturday.
