Bill O'Brien pinpoints areas to improve

Posted Nov 13, 2017

The day after falling to the Rams on the road, head coach Bill O'Brien pinpointed a few key areas where the Texans must improve.

In the immediate aftermath of Sunday's loss at Los Angeles, head coach Bill O'Brien blamed himself for the loss.

During a Monday press conference at NRG Stadium, he pinpointed a few key areas where the Texans must get better.

“We have to finish drives," O'Brien said. "I think it was five or six games in a row where we were scoring a bunch of points. I know that there was a different quarterback in there but it seemed like we were finishing drives pretty well. We’ve got to get back to finishing drives in the end zone, not with field goals and obviously not turnovers."

The Texans had 13 possessions in Sunday's loss to the Rams, and only one resulted in a touchdown. They punted six times, turned the ball over via interception or fumble four times, missed a field goal and ran out the end of the first half.

Improving in the run game, according to O'Brien, would help the Texans in finding the end zone more often.

"I think we just have to be more consistent in running the football," O'Brien said. "I just think consistency’s really the key theme."

The Texans were successful in the first half on the ground, rushing 17 times for 78 yards as a team. Before the intermission, running backs Lamar Miller and D'Onta Foreman combined to average 5.5 yards on 14 carries.

O'Brien and company will host the Cardinals this Sunday at noon CT inside NRG Stadium.
