Breakfast: An underrated rookie camp emphasis

Rookie minicamp wrapped up less than 24 hours ago, and the three days of work included a key focus for the 2018 Texans: special teams.

Getting better in that area has been a big emphasis this offseason, and the organization installed new coordinator Brad Seely and assistant Tracy Smith to help with that.

The rookie class, as well, willl play an important role in making strides for improvement.

"It's big," head coach Bill O'Brien said. "There is going to be a big bulk of those guys on the roster on both sides of the ball that are going to have to perform on special teams."

The Texans practiced over the weekend at the Houston Methodist Training Center, and the new special teams bosses got their message across to the rookies.

"Brad Seely and Tracy Smith, they're very good at initially making those guys understand the value of their role on special teams and how they fit into this team relative to special teams, whether it's the field goal protection unit or they're a four core special teams players," O'Brien said

He also stressed that the Texans "are lucky" to have someone with Seely's experience and expertise, as he's been in the NFL for 29 years, 10 of them with a Patriots team that won three Super Bowls.

The Texans begin OTAs on Monday, May 21.
