Breakfast: Deshaun Watson’s motto

Posted May 15, 2018

Deshaun Watson has a motto this offseason.

Deshaun Watson set NFL records in just seven games played as a rookie.

Now working his way back to the field after his season-ending ACL surgery, Watson wants to improve his game even more in Year 2. He won’t be shattering records in the offseason or rushing back before he is ready. Watson has an incremental approach throughout his recovery process: to get better by one percent every day.

“He really has a passion for football, he has a passion for getting better every day,” head coach Bill O’Brien said to NFL Network. “He has a phrase himself that he talks about himself which is try to get better one percent every day and I think that’s the philosophy that he brings into the locker room. He’s got a real good way about him, fun guy to coach, look forward to meeting with him every day and working with him on the field.”

In 2017, Watson paced all rookie quarterbacks in passing touchdowns (19), total touchdowns (21) and passer rating (103.0) and set the Texans’ single-season rookie franchise record for touchdown passes in just seven games. With Watson at quarterback, the Texans had the NFL’s highest-scoring offense, averaging 30.7 points per game at the time of his injury.
