Breakfast: Long snapping, eh?

Posted Aug 30, 2016

Brian Peters has stepped in at long snapper in the Canadian Football League too.

Brian Peters is the man to call on when a backup long snapper is needed.

A big contributor on special teams, the inside linebacker led the Texans and tied for first in the NFL last year with 17 special teams tackles.

But on Sunday, Peters flashed back to his days with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, filling in at long snapper too.

“(Jon) Weeks had a little calf pull so we tried Peters there and he did a nice job,” head coach Bill O’Brien said Monday. “You know in that situation that you do have a guy, potentially, that could fill in as an emergency long snapper.”

Peters once said in an interview with Texans Radio that he wrote emails, sent highlight tapes and his stats to football teams in order to get an opportunity. At one point, Saskatchewan was the only one that called him back.

“Northwestern prepared me for that, sending out my football resume,” Peters said, laughing.

Peters assumed long-snapping duties on punts in the Texans 34-24 preseason win against the Arizona Cardinals. The second-year player had to similarly fill in during one of his seasons in the CFL.

Here is a highlight reel of his long-snapping days in Canada.
