Brian Cushing suffers concussion in overtime loss

Posted Sep 29, 2013

Brian Cushing suffered a concussion in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss against Seattle.

Brian Cushing suffered a concussion in Sunday's 23-20 overtime loss against Seattle. Cushing headed to the locker room in the third quarter to be evaluated and did not return. He was replaced by rookie Justin Tuggle.

"He has a concussion," head coach Gary Kubiak said the post-game press conference. "That's the diagnosis and that's why he didn't play the rest of the way."

Cushing led the defense with nine tackles. He also added a forced fumble on carry by Marshawn Lynch in the second quarter which was recoverd by the Texans. Antonio Smith was in contact with Cushing afterwards.

"I spoke to him and he said he's doing good," Smith said in the locker room.

Smith did not notice that Cushing was out of the game until he saw Tuggle in the huddle. Cushing's absence definitely affected the defense, according to Smith.

"It kind of threw me off," Smith said. "Knowing who Brian is, the thing I would say changed is, he's an animal; he's everywhere on that field and you seen that in the first half that if anybody was coming up the middle, he was laying that hat on them."
