Case Keenum practices, takes normal Thursday reps

Posted Dec 26, 2013

Quarterback Case Keenum practiced Thursday and will start Sunday at Tennessee if he's healthy.

After a Christmas break on Wednesday, Case Keenum and the Texans were back on the practice field Wednesday. Keenum, who was inactive against Denver because of a sprained right thumb, took part in the day's work.

"Case threw the ball his normal amount that he would throw on a Thursday," interim head coach Wade Phillips said. "Looked alright throwing the ball. We'll have to see tomorrow how sore he is, what complications could or could not come from throwing the football today."

If all checks out, Keenum will be under center for the Texans' season finale this Sunday in Nashville.

"He would start, if he's healthy," Phillips said. "We should be clearer tomorrow on just how he feels. I think if he's alright and able to grip it and throw it again tomorrow, then it's fine."

Matt Schaub started against the Broncos and T.J. Yates was the backup. Offensive coordinator Rick Dennison was cautious in his forecast of whether or not Keenum would be ready for Sunday against the Titans.

"He looked okay and we'll just leave it at that," Dennison said Thursday. "We'll see how he does and how he responds."
