Case Keenum tops long list of Texans injuries

Posted Dec 16, 2013

The day after Sunday’s 25-3 loss at Indianapolis, the Texans were left with a long list of injuries.

The day after Sunday’s game at Indianapolis, the Texans were left with a long list of injuries.

The most significant was the one to Case Keenum’s throwing hand. Keenum sprained his right thumb and had an MRI on Monday, according to interim head coach Wade Phillips. The Colts had 8 quarterback hits and four sacks on Keenum in the 25-3 loss.

Whether or not Keenum can play on Sunday against Denver is uncertain.

“Well we’ll have to wait and see,” Phillips said. “We’ll see what they say from the MRI and see what the doctors say and see what he’s able to do. But it’s certainly a concern on the quarterback when it’s right (his) right hand, thumb. But we’ll just have to wait and see what he can do on Wednesday in practice.”

Ben Tate, who had been playing with cracked ribs since the Kansas City game, also re-aggravated his injury.

“Ben Tate went in for a CT scan on his ribs because he got banged in the ribs again, which he hurt before,” Phillips said.

Four additional players had MRIs including Antonio Smith (knee sprain), Johnathan Joseph (groin soreness), Justin Tuggle (hyperextension of elbow), and DeVier Posey who suffered what is initially considered to be a high ankle sprain. The MRI test results were not all available as of Monday’s press conference, according to Phillips.

Darryl Sharpton suffered a slight ankle sprain and Bryan Braman had an x-ray on his finger, which showed it was dislocated.

Tight ends Owen Daniels and Garrett Graham are still questionable to return. Daniels could return to practice this week after being placed on injured reserve with designation to return on October 9.

“We thought he might practice last week, but he wasn’t able to,” Phillips said regarding Daniels. “So I think it’s still a ‘might situation’ this week as far as him practicing. Garrett Graham I didn’t mention, but he’s still sore. So he’s still iffy as far as this week is concerned.”

Graham did not practice last week due to a hamstring strain and was inactive for Sunday’s game.
