Case Keenum under "evaluation" for rest of season

Posted Dec 10, 2013

Case Keenum will get a second shot at Indianapolis on Sunday, as well as chances to start against Denver and Tennesse as the starter for the remainder of the season.

Case Keenum will get a second shot at Indianapolis on Sunday, as well as chances to start against Denver and Tennesse as the starter for the remainder of the season.

In his seven NFL starts, Keenum has yet to experience a win, but has kept the Texans within a touchdown of doing so. Now he’ll have three more chances to prove he can get the job done. Interim head coach Wade Phillips said it was a team decision to stick with Keenum, not just his.

“I think Case needs to go through some of the rough times to get stronger in some areas,” Phillips said. Sometimes, he’s got to be able to bring them back during a game. That’s what you want to see out of a young quarterback and see if he can do those things. It’s not a trial basis. It’s just an evaluation basis.”

In the Texans’ 27-24 loss to the Colts on November 3, Keenum had one of his best performances, completing 20-of-34 passes for 350 yards, three touchdowns, and a season-high quarterback rating of 123.4. Keenum's trio of touchdown passes were caught by Andre Johnson who also had a career-best three touchdown game with nine receptions for 229 yards.
