Case Keenum working on hurry-up drills

Posted Dec 12, 2013

Case Keenum gets extra practice time for fast-paced game situations.

Case Keenum is working on operating within a faster-paced game situation. In Thursday’s practice, interim head coach Wade Phillips wanted to give Keenum extra reps during the hurry-up and two-minute drills.

“We actually repeated again today," Phillips said. "We had to do it again twice because we needed, it wasn’t part of the schedule, but we wanted to do it again so he would get more comfortable with it. It’s something that he really did well in college. We’ve got get him on that page as far as we’re concerned.”

Besides getting his first career NFL win, Keenum wants to grow in his decision making and game management skills. Against Indianapolis in Week 9, Keenum’s first-half performance is one he hopes to build up for Sunday’s rematch against the Colts.

“I think we started really well, and I think Andre (Johnson) went off in the first half of that game,” Keenum said. “We took some shots, and obviously hit on a few of those. We got into a little bit of a groove, and I think that’s going to be important this week; making sure that we get into a rhythm, and making sure that we don’t let their really good pass rushers get up the field, and making sure I get the ball out to our guys and letting them make plays; making them make tackles. I think all of those things, just like we did last time are going to be very important.”

Keenum has thrown 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions with a 54.3 percent completion rate this season. He threw for a career-high 350 yards and tied his season-best with a three touchdown performance. Keenum will make his eighth start on Sunday against the Colts.
