Clowney talks about new deal

Posted Jun 9, 2014

Jadeveon Clowney talks about his plans now that his rookie contract with the Texans has been finalized.

Before the draft, Jadeveon Clowney said he wanted to buy a house for his mother once he made the NFL payroll. That hasn’t changed since the Texans No. 1 overall pick finalized his rookie contract.

“It was a great feeling just to see that you took care of all your business and it paid off for me in the long run," Clowney said Monday. "Something I’ve been looking forward to my whole life. Now I get paid for something I love to do, play football."

Clowney, who inked his deal Friday, didn’t have time to spend poring over the numbers. He was at OTA practice all week.

“Everybody else started posting it everywhere and I was still here trying to figure out what was going on in the playbook and everything," Clowney said, laughing. "It’s my money now so I got to take care of it, save it, after I buy my mom something nice.”

The Texans have just two weeks of practice, which include OTAs and mandatory minicamp, before heading into their pre-training camp break. Rookies, first-year players, and quarterbacks will report for early training camp practices beginning July 21.
