D.J. Swearinger: “Our defense is going to be stingy”

Posted Jul 21, 2014

D.J. Swearinger talks about the Texans 2014 defense with J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney.

Second-year safety D.J. Swearinger is looking forward to donning the pads and getting the 2014 season underway.

“We had some bumps and bruises last year but we’ve been working hard this offseason and this defense will be a stingy defense,” Swearinger said last week.

This year, Swearinger will be reunited with his former teammate Jadeveon Clowney. After playing alongside Clowney for two seasons at South Carolina, Swearinger is all too familiar with what the No. 1 draft pick brings to the Texans front seven.

“I don’t predict numbers but I know he’s going to wreak havoc for a lot quarterbacks because it’s going to be hard to block him and J.J. (Watt) at the same time,” Swearinger said of Clowney.

On Saturday Swearinger wrapped up the Houston Texans Stampede Tour presented by Academy Sports Outdoors which took place July 17-19 in the Austin and San Antonio areas. Swearinger interacted with fans and helped host two youth Heads Up football camps with former Texans safety Eric Brown.

Swearinger and the veterans will report to training camp on Friday. Two-a-day practices officially begin on Saturday, July 26 at the Houston Methodist Training Center.
