DeAndre Hopkins passes final concussion test

Posted Sep 3, 2013

After missing a few weeks due to a concussion, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins returned to practice on

DeAndre Hopkins passed the final concussion protocol and can play in the Week 1 opener next Monday night at San Diego.

The rookie wide receiver suffered the concussion during the August 17 preseason contest against Miami, and is now cleared to go after missing just over two weeks worth of time.

Head coach Gary Kubiak said after Thursday's win at Dallas that he expected Hopkins would be ready for the Chargers' game.

After Tuesday's practice, fellow wideout Andre Johnson shared his thoughts on Hopkins.

“I think he’s come along well," Johnson said. "He’s a rookie still. There are things he’s going to have to learn. Now, he’s really going to have to learn more on the fly because he missed preseason games and things like that."

In the preseason opener at Minnesota, Hopkins pulled in a 34-yard pass from T.J. Yates for an acrobatic touchdown catch. The next week during the first half of the Dolphins game, Hopkins exited with the concussion. Depsite the missed time, Johnson said Hopkins will be a key contributor to the offense in 2013.

"I think he’s done well so far and I think he’s going to help us out a whole lot,” Johnson said.

Hopkins, Johnson and the Texans have Wednesday off before practicing Thursday, Friday and Saturday in preparation for San Diego.
