DeVier Posey Rookie Diary: Week 1 excitement

Posted Sep 8, 2012

Rookie wide receiver DeVier Posey discusses his excitement for Week 1 and his weekly preparation in his latest diary entry for HoustonTexans.com

Throughout the 2012 season, Texans rookie wide receiver DeVier Posey, a third-round draft pick from Ohio State, will give insight on his experiences in his Rookie Diary on HoustonTexans.com. To ask DeVier a question, leave a comment below or tweet at the Texans' official Twitter account (@HoustonTexans) with the hashtag #DPoDiary. Follow Posey on Twitter @DPo8.

Week 1 is finally here. I’m excited just to see what the atmosphere’s going to be like on game day.  You see the guys in the training room, their nicks and bruises are going to be gone on game day. To see them get out there and play, I’m just excited.

You feel a buzz about this team. The only way to sum up the buzz for the city and the team was our first preseason game at home. That place was going crazy, and I was just like, ‘Wow, this is a preseason game.’ To hear how excited the fans were just to have football back in Houston, I’m excited to see what they’re going to bring out on Sunday.

To be able to get that 80-yard touchdown catch against the Vikings in the last preseason game, that felt great. I wanted to make a play when I had my opportunity. My game is getting better every single day. I feel like if I keep getting better and I keep working and keep working and keep working, I can make those kind of plays. I don’t really think it was a fluke. I feel like if I keep working hard, keep listening to (wide receivers coach Larry) Kirksey, Kub (head coach Gary Kubiak) and Rico (offensive coordinator Rick Dennison), just make sure I’m learning every single day and doing my part and being a pro, I can make those plays with my teammates helping me out and also just help the team.

I hit a little rough spot with the playbook during camp, but that was just for like a day or two. Besides that, I feel like my overall understanding of what we’re trying to do and what we’re trying to attack as an offense is more broad now that we’re out of preseason. You see going into a game week what’s it like, the preparation what we’re going to go do, get a good grasp of the game plan.

No matter what going into the game, I’m going to prepare like I’m playing. The only thing that I really know how to do as a player and as a guy on this team is just prepare like I’m a starter. I don’t care wherever I’ve been, as far as Ohio State, high school, no matter what, that’s the only way I know how to do it. I have my routine and do my extra stuff every week.

At no point do I ever feel discouraged at all in my game. I have confidence that I can play here, and I have confidence that I will help this team at some point. That’s just how I approach it. It may not be at the rate that everybody else wants. It might not be how everybody else wants. But I have nothing but confidence that I can help this team at some point this year and in the future.

I appreciate the fans following me through these entries. We’re going to be doing it all year, so I just appreciate the support and hope everybody can scream loud on Sunday. Can’t wait to see ‘em.
