Duane Brown has toe injury, but not ruled out of Week 3

Posted Sep 18, 2013

Left tackle Duane Brown has a toe injury, but might play Sunday at Baltimore.

Duane Brown is nursing a sprained toe.

Head coach Gary Kubiak said the All-Pro left tackle, who was hurt Sunday at Reliant Stadium, didn't practice on Wednesday at the Houston Methodist Training Center. Kubiak, however, didn't rule out the possibility that Brown could play in Week 3 at Baltimore.

"It’s going to probably be an end of the week decision," Kubiak said. "But you’ve got a player who can play without practicing. He’s got plenty of football under his belt. He knows what we’re doing."

Rather than having Brown out on the practice field watch his teammates, the Texans kept the 2012 Pro Bowler inside.

"Obviously, he battled through it in a game," Kubiak said. "He's very, very sore. We're taking the approach that he's better off in the training room right now, than being out there standing around. We put him in a boot."

When pressed on whether or not Brown could play, Kubiak said he had "no feeling one way or the other."

Brown missed some time during Sunday's win over Tennessee, and backup Ryan Harris filled in during his absence. Should Harris have to start Sunday, the Texans won't make any drastic alterations to their gameplan.

"We try to do the same thing that we do," offensive coordinator Rick Dennison said. "We try not to change too much. We expect Ryan to step in and do a good job."

Dennison was an assistant coach in Denver when the Broncos selected Harris in the draft. Harris rotated with Derek Newton last season at the right tackle spot, and even started a few games there late in the 2012 campaign.
