Ed Reed leaves town after 2-day visit with Texans

Posted Mar 15, 2013

Free agent safety Ed Reed and the Texans met for two days in Houston.

After spending the better part of Thursday and Friday visiting with the Texans in Houston, free agent safety Ed Reed left town earlier this afternoon. And he remains a free agent.

According to tweets from FOX 26’s Mark Berman, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, Reed and the Texans will continue to talk about a possible deal. It was reported that the 11-year veteran of the Ravens left Houston because of a previously scheduled weekend commitment.

On Wednesday, the Texans lost starting safety Glover Quin, who signed a free agent deal with the Detroit Lions. Quin started every game the past two seasons at safety, and was one of the team’s starting cornerbacks in 2010. The 2009 fourth-round pick out of New Mexico left a void in the secondary.

Reed, who was college teammates at Miami (FL) with Texans’ receiver Andre Johnson, is a nine-time Pro Bowler and the 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He was picked up in Atlanta on Thursday morning by general manager Rick Smith, who flew there via team chairman/CEO Bob McNair’s private jet. Reed was joined on the trip by his financial advisers, Brad Davis and Brad Schwartz.
