Ed Reed takes on "full-load" of practice

Posted Sep 18, 2013

Ed Reed’s start date is moving closer with the All-Pro safety turning a corner in practice on Wednesday.

Ed Reed’s start date is moving closer with the All-Pro safety turning a corner in practice on Wednesday.

“He took a full-load of practice today, the most he’s taken,” head coach Gary Kubiak said Wednesday. “We continue to move toward him playing, but I still say it’s going to be an end of the week decision. We’ll see how he comes out of this and how he comes out of tomorrow. If the progression stays the same, then obviously we’re real close.”

Reed was still listed as limited in practice on Wednesday but could still be a game-time decision against at Baltimore on Sunday. The fact that Reed could have his first start as a Texan against his former team is coincidence, according to Kubiak. Reed was actually ready and willing to play in last Sunday’s game against the Titans.

“I think he felt like he could play, yes,” Kubiak said. “As a matter of fact, I know he felt like he could play because he told me a few times.”

Former teammate Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco does not plan on altering his game plan based on Reed’s playing status at M&T Stadium.

“We’re going to have to go out there and execute our gameplan no matter what,” Flacco said. “Obviously, he’s a good player back there and we understand what he can do, but you can’t let him dictate the whole gameplan. Maybe a couple plays here and there, but you just have to make sure that you go out there and play your game and play smart and go through your reads, run routes well and all that stuff. Just like any other good player, they may make their plays; we just have to make sure we limit them.”

In his 160 games with Baltimore, Reed was a five-time All-Pro safety named to nine Pro Bowls. He holds the Ravens’ franchise record with 61 career interceptions. Reed’s 1,541 interception return yards are the most in NFL history.
