Ed Reed to visit Texans on Thursday

The Texans will host veteran safety Ed Reed, a nine-time Pro Bowler with the Baltimore Ravens, for a free agent visit on Thursday at Reliant Stadium.

The Texans will host nine-time Pro Bowl safety Ed Reed for a free agent visit on Thursday at Reliant Stadium.

Reed, 34, has spent his entire 11-year career with the Baltimore Ravens. The eight-time All-Pro and 2004 NFL Defensive Player of the Year has 61 career interceptions, which ranks 10th in NFL history.

The Texans are looking for a replacement for free safety Glover Quin, who signed a five-year deal with the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. Quin started all 32 games over the last two seasons next to strong safety Danieal Manning.

The only other safeties on Texans’ roster are Shiloh Keo, a 2011 fifth-round draft pick who played sparingly on defense last season, and Eddie Pleasant, an undrafted rookie out of Oregon in 2012 who spent most of last season on the practice squad.

A New Orleans native, Reed played collegiately with Andre Johnson at the University of Miami. He had four interceptions and 15 passes defensed for the Super Bowl champion Ravens last season, along with an interception of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick in Super Bowl XLVII.
