*The following is a random assortment of quotes, oddities, scattershots and interesting tidbits from Tuesday at Texans Training Camp presented by XFINITY.
-The next-to-last open practice of camp saw 5,156 Texans fans come out to the Houston Methodist Training Center in the morning.
-Cornerback Kareem Jackson made a nice play on the ball, breaking up a pass over the middle intended for Andre Johnson. For all the brilliant catches made during camp by Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins, Keshawn Martin and company, the defensive backs have made their share of plays too.
“Nothing is easy out here,” Hopkins said. “A lot of guys talking about me making tough catches, but those guys are making a lot of plays on me as well.”
-Linebacker Brian Cushing wore a microphone and was followed by an NFL Films camera crew.
-Safety Ed Reed was seen frequently behind the secondary, calling out encouragement and instructions.
-Defensive ends Tim Jamison and J.J. Watt both batted down passes.
-Martin continues to make difficult catches look fairly routine. Quarterback Matt Schaub is anxious to see the second-year wideout in games.
“He’s coming into year two and really understanding the offense, getting open, exploding through routes, and creating separation,” Schaub said. “I’m excited to get Keshawn out there and get some balls thrown his way.”
-During special teams work, the bulk of Randy Bullock’s kickoffs went out of the back of the end zone. A handful came in a yard or two shy of the back line.
-Keenan McCardell was watching practice. The former NFL receiver finished his career with 883 receptions, 65 more than Johnson. Respectively, they’re in spots 15 and 22 on the all-time list.
-Running back Ben Tate took part in the afternoon practice inside.
