Emptied Notebook: Day 7 of Texans Training Camp

Posted Aug 1, 2013

One return, one possible return, and one return man were topics touched on in Drew Dougherty's "Emptied Notebook" on Thursday.

-The Texans worked outside at the Houston Methodist Training Center Thursday morning in front of 5,181 fans. In the afternoon, the team worked out inside. The squad wore shoulder pads and helmets in the morning and was without pads and helmets in the afternoon.

-Tight end Garrett Graham practiced with the squad Thursday and his return was a welcome sight to head coach Gary Kubiak.

“He’s starting to feel like himself,” Kubiak said. “He pretty much practiced today almost full tilt. We’ll get a good day of work out of him tomorrow. He should have no problems moving forward.”

-Because rookie wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has garnered a lot of praise, the performance through a week of camp by fellow wideout Keshawn Martin has flown under the proverbial radar. But Martin’s growth hasn’t escaped general manager Rick Smith.

“(He’s) probably the brightest thing I’ve seen at the (wide receiver) position,” Smith said Thursday on Texans Radio. “Obviously I love what DeAndre’s doing, but Keshawn and his jump is really significant. He’s been making plays and you can see his progression.”

-Former Texans general manager Charley Casserly is now on-air as an analyst for the NFL Network. He was live from training camp Thursday and did this 1-on-1 with defensive end Antonio Smith.

-Cornerback Kareem Jackson broke up a deep pass intended for wide receiver Andre Johnson in the morning’s work. Stride-for-stride with Johnson, Jackson looked back at the last moment and swatted the ball away.

-Late Thursday, Kubiak revealed that running back Arian Foster might practice with the team as soon as Sunday.
