Emptied Notebook: Day 8 of Texans Training Camp

Posted Aug 2, 2013

The Friday morning practice saw some more heroics from DeAndre Hopkins.

-There were 5,490 Texans fans at Friday’s only practice, which happened outside in the morning at the Houston Methodist Training Center.

-Running back Ben Tate missed a bit of practice with what he termed a “tight” groin.

-Quarterback Matt Schaub found wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins deep over the middle during the two-minute drill. Throwing from his own end zone, Schaub bombed it down the center of the field and Hopkins came down with the ball. Head coach Gary Kubiak continues to be impressed by the rookie receiver.

“All the contested stuff is what he’s exceptional at,” Kubiak. “When it’s close and it’s him and another guy, he makes a play because he’s got big strong hands and he’s a very physical player.”

-Several players were given a break on Friday morning, including wide receiver Andre Johnson and defensive end J.J. Watt. For the 32-year old Johnson, the rest was appreciated.

“Your body changes and sometimes you have to get rest on certain days and things like that to make sure your body is feeling well,” Johnson said. “It’s great to have a coach that has played the game and knows what your body goes through. It helps you out a whole lot.”

Johnson and the Texans have Saturday off, and resume two-a-days on Sunday morning.

-A slew of former Texans were on hand to watch practice. Amongst those in attendance were Jay Foreman, J.J. Moses, Danny Clark, Corey Bradford, Eric Brown and Seth Payne.
