Fresno State QB Derek Carr preps for NFL

Posted Feb 10, 2014

Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr was outstanding in 2013, and followed it up with a solid performance during his week in Mobile at the Senior Bowl.

Derek Carr (6-3, 218) followed up a sterling collegiate career at Fresno State with an impressive week at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

Each day after practice, he'd speak with the media and then get extra work in throwing passes to any receiver willing. In the actual game, he helped lead the South to a 20-10 victory, completing seven-of-12 passes and a touchdown.

After throwing for 5,082 yards and 50 touchdowns in 2013, it was the perfect cherry on top of what was an exceptional season.

"Really just trying to prove to these teams that I can play in their systems," Carr said during a 1-on-1 with Texans TV. "Prove to them that I can lead their franchise. There's so much that goes into the quarterback position, with such little details, that I'm trying to show them 'Hey, I take it very seriously.'"

Carr is a possible first round pick, and after playing in an offense at Fresno State in which he lined up primarily in the shotgun, he prepared for the Senior Bowl and the next level in a different way.

"Leading up to this, I did absolutely everything I could on the field," Carr said. "I never took a snap under center, or I never took a snap from the gun while training for this."

Carr's older brother is former Houston Texans signal-caller David Carr, and the former learned quite a bit from the latter a decade ago.

"He always taught me you're going to be praised and you're going to be criticized," Carr said. "Ignore both. Because neither matter. Just continue to work hard."
