Gary Kubiak gives update on Arian Foster

Posted Aug 19, 2013

Running back Arian Foster continues to work on a side field during Texans practices.

Monday’s practice saw the return of wide receiver DeVier Posey, but the continued absence of running back Arian Foster. The three-time Pro Bowler continued work on a side field while the majority of the Texans participated in a walkthrough at the Houston Methodist Training Center. He's recovering from back soreness and a calf injury suffered during OTA's.

Because of what head coach Gary Kubiak has seen from Foster in that side field work, though, he’s confident the 2012 NFL touchdown king will suit up for the season opener at San Diego.

“Yes, I am because I watch him work,” Kubiak said Monday. “I’ve been watching him. He’s basically going through practices or has been since we’ve been in camp on his own with (Head Athletic Trainer) Geoff (Kaplan) and obviously there’s been a little setback as we try to get the soreness out of him.”

Even though Foster hasn’t donned pads and gone through contact since the Pro Bowl, Kubiak doesn’t think Foster will be too rusty.

“It’s not like he’s been standing around for the last three weeks,” Kubiak said. But obviously want to get him back out here as quick as we can.”

Kubiak still doesn’t have a target date for Fotster’s return, and said the team is staying patient and positive.
