Gary Kubiak limited in his return this week

Posted Nov 12, 2013

Head coach Gary Kubiak plans to return this week in a limited capacity.

Gary Kubiak returned to work this week after the team's 27-24 loss to Arizona. While he has not officially resumed his head coaching duties, Kubiak plans to slowly begin his return.

"He’s going to be in a limited amount of time this week—all that is up to the doctors as far as that is concerned," interim head coach Wade Phillips said. "We really don’t know until they tell us actually what he’s going to do, as far as the week is concerned, but he looked good.

After suffering a transient ischemic attack (TIA) during halftime against Indianapolis, Kubiak was hospitalized for 48 hours. He visited the team last Thursday and spoke to players again after practice on Monday.

"His comments were really overall looking at the ballgame from afar and how much he missed it," Phillips said. "How much he missed being with the players and how much he missed being around the team."

Players were also happy to see that Kubiak was back and feeling better.

"It felt good (to see him)," Duane Brown said. "We saw him last week briefly, but to have him address us, talk a little bit about what he saw last week (against Arizona) and our plans going forward. It was good to see."

Whether or not Kubiak returns as head coach in time for Sunday's game against Oakland remains to be seen. Doctors closely monitoring his situation will decide when he is ready. Until then, Phillips will continue to fill in as the interim head coach.
