Gary Kubiak said DeAndre Hopkins close to return

Posted Aug 29, 2013

Following the Texans' preseason win over Dallas, head coach Gary Kubiak said receiver DeAndre Hopkins is close to returning from a concussion.

He’s not ready yet, but DeAndre Hopkins might soon be, according to Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. Following the win over the Cowboys in Arlington, Kubiak said there was consideration given to playing the rookie receiver from Clemson.

“Yes, there was but in all honesty he hasn’t passed the final test,” Kubiak said. “So, he would have liked to play 10 or 12 plays, but he’s not finished yet.”

The ‘test’ Kubiak referred to was part of the NFL’s concussion protocol for return. Hopkins suffered the concussion in the second preseason game when the Texans hosted the Dolphins on August 17. But Kubiak said Hopkins could be back in action this week.

“He’s fine,” Kubiak said. “I think if we weren’t here in Dallas and we were back with our doctors in Houston, he would pass it today. So, I don’t see any problem.”

The Texans open the regular season with a Monday Night Football contest on September 9 in San Diego.
