Hopkins leaves game with injury

Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins leaves preseason game against Miami with a head injury and did not return.

Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins left in the first quarter of the Texans preseason home opener against Miami on Saturday with a concussion. Hopkins was hit in the legs but appeared to have knocked his head on the ground during the play. He was taken to the locker room and did not return for the remainder of the game.

"He just took a really good shot early," said head coach Gary Kubiak. According to Kubiak, Hopkins was stumbling and not acting like himself after the hit so he was taken out of the game for further evaluation.

"He got a concussion," Kubiak said after the game. "I don't know exactly what play it happened on, but I thought something was wrong. He seemed a bit woozy. I told (Wide Receivers Coach) Larry (Kirksey) to get him out of there and then we checked him out. He's fine now, he's doing fine, but we're obviously going to put him through the protocol. I think it happened on the first or second ball that he caught in the game, I think."

Prior to the hit, Hopkins had two receptions for 22 yards, including a13-yard catch from Case Keenum. In the Texans first preseason game at Minnesota, Hopkins made a leaping 34-yard touchdown catch from T.J. Yates.

Hopkins, the Texans first-round pick from Clemson, was poised to be the Texans second receiver behind veteran Andre Johnson.
